Hello! My name is Matthew Boersma and this is my professional dossier. In the links above, you can find information about my teaching experience, publications, and conference presentations. Additionally, there is also a link to my Academia.edu page, where you can find full text versions of my papers.
I am currently finishing my coursework in Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion's PhD program. My field of study is Hebrew Bible and its interpretation in the Greco-Roman period. I look at how early Jewish and Christian groups, as well as the groups which came before them, understood the texts of the Bible. By looking at these interpretations, we can see how the early Jews and Christians developed their theologies as well as their understanding of Scripture, canon, and other ideas.
I am currently teaching for the Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership. I teach the first course in their program, Introduction to Biblical Studies, and other elective Bible courses.
I am the proud father of a seven-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son, both of whom keep my time outside of school very busy. My wife is a family physician who practices in rural Indiana. Outside of the academia, I am interested in cooking, home brewing beer and cider, and gaming (board, card, and role-playing).
